School’s Starting/August Plan

Heyaaaa, so most of us are starting school in about 4 weeks and many of us aren’t prepared… I know I’m one of them. I’m starting sixth form at a new school where I won’t know anyone so it will be very nerve-wracking. I’m planning on starting to study for my subjects and get everything prepared for starting a new academic year. I have chosen to study Psychology, English Literature and Music, and I know these subjects will take a lot out of me because they’re all really hard, so within the next 4 weeks, I plan to study the content as much as I can even though there’s a lot of other things I have to do such as practice all my instruments, so August will be a very busy month for me. I’ve really struggled to stay focused and I have a lack of motivation to study properly because I end up watching Netflix while studying which is extremely bad because then my attention is diverted and the information won’t stick. I also tend to study for really long periods of times without having a break which would cause me to feel extremely stressed and not much of the content would be stuck into my head.

For the month of August, I plan to have a lot done:

  • Read Othello-William Shakespeare and complete an essay on it
  • The photoshoot you’ve all been waiting for!!
  • Finish 3 pieces of music on the piano, and 2 on the guitar
  • Go through the whole content of Psychology and Music (this might not be fully completed because there’s a lot – I also need to read Tess of the d’Urbervilles and Death of a Salesman for English Literature too!!
  • Finish the whole of the Driving Theory book – I’ve already gone through half – and this is mostly optional!
  • Rewatch Gossip Girl and The Vampire Diaries!!

So this is pretty much what I plan to do with my August, and now onto the tips:

So for people who’s studying for GCSE’s I would recommend that you revise over the content that you’ve learnt previously and once that’s done then try studying ahead!

For the new year 7s, I would recommend you to start studying the content of your subjects to get a head start because first impressions matter a lot!

For those who are starting a new school like me, don’t worry too much about it. Just walk in and try and talk to people because I’m also a very shy person and I don’t feel comfortable talking to people I don’t know and I’m quite awkward when I’m not close to someone. In the past year I’ve finally grown out of it and became a lot more outgoing and I finally can talk to new people, but I’m still terrified to be in a new place and not know anyone because most of the people already know each other so it would be harder to make friends. It’s really important to make friends wherever you go because maybe you’d find a lifelong friend. Try to make a good impression on everyone because the less enemies you have in school the better, it will save you from a lot of pain and tears in the future because you’re stuck with these people for several years!!

For those who are in year 8,9,10 you better work your butts off because all your hard work will pay off when you sit your GCSEs. Always ask the teacher for help regardless, even if it’s in class or after class, ALWAYSSSSS ASK FOR HELP!!!

Now moving on to some things you should always take to school:

  • A pencil case that contains full equipment
  • Tissues/wipes/hand sanitiser
  • Face Masks- Covid-19 😦
  • Lip balm
  • Spare Paper

An Emergency Kit consisting of:

  • A small bag to put the stuff in
  • Pads/Tampons (girl)
  • Plasters
  • Hair ties/ Bobby Pins
  • Deodorant
  • Spare Underwear
  • Perfume
  • Mints
  • Paracetamol or any type of pain killers
  • Cream
  • Cotton pads/buds
  • Travel sized jar for earrings during P.E.

Use these last few weeks wisely and start studying beforehand so you’re ready!!

Lots of Love,

and Good Luck,

-Vivian
